I have to agree that the USPSA is a great idea. i am a member of the minority of students who needed to be challenged in a non-traditional fashion. unfortunately this was not available to me in the 80's, so i turned to the Navy instead. I don't regret that and it has helped during my public service careers, but wouldn't an opportunity to do so in a academic environment have been a wonderful option?
I wonder if the USPSA should be a physical presence or a virtual one, programs at existing learning institutions but either way believe it is a good idea.

Only time will tell......the records would always show NJIT's longest losing streak.....but there is something that holds too.....They won their first two games.....first away game against Manhattan and first home game against Rider University that included an NBA early draft pick....using players without NCAA Division 1 experience....so it is not as though they achieved nothing....

Comment on A Call for a Do Not Call Policy for Military Recruiting by Recruiter in Limbo.

As an active military recruiter, I am given guidance that a certain percentage of high school seniors need to be contacted by a certain point in the year. For instance, 40% by September, 50% by November etc. This contact needs to one on one with the student. I am also required to follow up with students who state that they are not interested, and encouraged to make face to face contact with those who have opted out.
Should a student be interested in enlistment, and his parents oblect, we are told to pursue him after he turns 18; the age when parental consent is a non issue. If a person changes there mind about enlisting, a recruiter will be sent to their home to sell them face to face.
In concern to phone calls, we are each required to make a certain number of phone calls in any given day. An average would be 125. Should I run through an entire list of phone numbers, I am expected to call previously contacted individuals to meet my required number of attempts.
I believe that a no-call policy would forge a positive relationship with the communities we operate in, allowing us to disseminate information about the military to high school students without the pressure to enlist each one we talk to. This would require a change in military recruiting culture, which as it stands places extreme pressure on it's recruiters to meet the bottom line enlistment goal. Until there is a shift from this "numbers game" mentality, parents can expect to be frequently contacted by military recruiters seeking to enlist there children.

I see the many points you make but I want to counter the idea that you see this as unnecessary. As a current college student I can only wish that the USPSA had been around when I was searching through college options. An affordable, high-qaulity, education is very hard to find right now and that is exactly what the USPSA would provide. Along with affordable education the USPSA would provide a beacon of hope; that public service is a respectable field to venture into and that the nation does see the importance of it. I respect the millitary academies and all that they provide; but I think a civilian counterpart is vital to the development of a more efficent country.
